A bilateral meeting was held at the Sofia Balkan Palace Hotel, attended by over 40 Greek business representatives and nearly 180 Bulgarian companies. Representatives of production and business organisations, ports, local government bodies, universities and enterprises from Bulgaria and Greece participated in the meeting. The NSBS was represented by Mr Tsvetin Todorov, Chairman of the Board, and Associate Professor Dr Momchil Antov, Director of the Association.
In recent years, Bulgaria has consistently invested in developing the north-south axis. Although unfinished, the direct connection with Greece via the Struma highway and the infrastructure leading to the border crossings significantly reduces travel time, increases safety and facilitates trade. In parallel, work is also underway to modernise the Makaza, Zlatograd and Ilinden routes, which are of key importance for the development of the Rhodope region and northern Greece.
The Rudozem-Xanthi border crossing opened in January this year, along with new road sections on both sides of the border. This is a concrete result of joint efforts and a new impetus for strategic ties.
On 14 March, an international forum will be held in Thessaloniki, attended by representatives of Greek and Bulgarian ports. Holding the event in Thessaloniki will provide an opportunity to further develop the contacts established during the Sofia meeting.
The forum will feature thematic discussions between companies, business organisation representatives, industry association representatives, regional chamber of commerce representatives, university representatives, port authority representatives, mayors and municipal representatives from both countries.
